The final position we take a look at for your AFL Fantasy benefit is the forward line.
The lock: Jack Gunston $629,000
A perennial fantasy favourite. Gunston has earned his fantasy favouritism through consistency – not exactly a common trait in forwards across the league. Over the past four seasons, the sharpshooter has never dropped his average below 85, an outstanding record for a tall forward. If you’re looking for that reliable option whose price tag is shy of the Dangerfield cost, Gunston could prove your preference.
The smoky: Chad Wingard $598,000
It seems unfair to label a two-time All Australian with the “smoky” tag, but who knows what Wingard is capable of this year from the forward position. With the potential for more midfield time beckoning, Wingard could catapult himself into the fantasy elite this year. Through his sporadic midfield stints with Port Adelaide over the past few years, the 25-year-old showed he could gather 30 possessions on a whim. If you haven’t got Wingard on your shortlist, you might prove to regret that decision.
The rookie: James Worpel $480,000
Worpel might have a reasonably hefty price tag attached to him for a man entering just his second year in the system but, unlike other youngsters around the league, there is a far greater element of predictability for what you’re going to get from Worps in 2019. It also makes justifying his price an easier task when you consider that he is likely to spend most of his time in the midfield. Who knows where Worpel’s value could sit by the end of the year.
