Hawks’ inaccuracy costs them

Hawthorn had four more shots at goal than West Coast on Saturday, but its scoring production was not able to deliver the side a sixth win due to inaccuracy. The Hawks booted 6.14 after quarter time in comparison to the Eagles’ 8.6 in the same time. This inability of the Hawks to convert ultimately cost them the victory.

Frawley haunts Kennedy 

Josh Kennedy has gone goalless twice in his last 104 games, in the 2015 grand final against Hawthorn and in Saturday’s game. James Frawley is to blame for both of these lulls, with the Hawks defender proving Kennedy’s least favourite match-up in the league.

Jaeger puts in a monster

No one could doubt Jaeger O’Meara’s intensity on Saturday afternoon. The midfielder delivered an outstanding performance against a star-studded Eagles midfield, gathering a team-high 37 touches, 12 clearances and 10 tackles. What made the 25-year-old’s effort even more impressive was the fact that 25 of his disposals were contested, a new career-high for the on-baller.

The Eagles’ MCG run continues

Before the start of the 2018 season, West Coast was regarded as a poor traveling side that struggled considerably at the MCG. In their 23 visits to the ‘G prior to 2018, they managed to win just five of these, including four losses out of four finals games at the venue. But Adam Simpson’s side have since turned this issue around, having now won five on the trot there including last year’s grand final.
