Lost to West Coast by 6 points

Ladder position: 15th

It was the battle of the birds on Saturday afternoon when the Hawks and the Eagles met at the MCG.

It was a contested match in wintery conditions and the two sides remained close on the scoreboard throughout.

Oliver Hanrahan made his debut in the brown and gold and was able to kick a goal and collect 10 disposals in his first match.

Although James Frawley was able to keep Josh Kennedy goalless, the Eagles’ Jack Darling got off the leash kicking five goals, including three in the first quarter.

O’Meara was the leading possession getter for the Hawks 37 disposals and 12 clearances.

Scores were level with less than two minutes remaining but a snap by West Coast’s Jamie Cripps in the last ninety seconds saw the Eagles steal the game by 6 points.

VFL

Lost to Casey by 34 points

Ladder position: 8th

Box Hill met a strong Casey side on Saturday afternoon in miserable conditions at Casey Fields.

With Marc Pittonet sidelined with concussion, there was further bad news when fellow ruckman Ned Reeves also suffered a game ending knock.

Without a true ruck, Casey big man Braydon Preuss dominated with a staggering 64 hit outs, 17 disposals and six marks.

Harry Jones excelled for the Hawks with 28 disposals, eight tackles and a goal and Matt Walker was the only multiple goal scorer with two for the game.

Though the Demons were in front all day Box Hill never gave up, outscoring Casey three goals to two in the final quarter.

VFLW

Defeated Footscray by 25 points

Ladder position: 4th

Hawthorn’s VFLW side headed to a wet and windy Whitten Oval on Saturday afternoon where they met Footscray in Round 8.

The Hawks started the game with the wind and made the most of the advantage kicking 18 points in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs on the other hand weren’t able to capitalise on their scoring opportunities kicking just the one goal when they had the wind.

Two goals to the Hawks in the third term put them in front by 25 points and Hawthorn just needed to shut down the Dogs in the fourth quarter.

Hawthorn’s defence lead by Pepa Randall and Jayde Van Dyk kept the Bulldogs goalless in the final quarter giving the team its fourth win of the season.

The Hawks have now jumped to fourth position on the ladder.

Netball

Championship ladder position: 8th

Division 1 ladder position: 4th

Under 19 ladder position: 7th

It was a tough night for Hawks Netball last Wednesday when all three teams faced the Southern Saints in Round 14 of the Victorian Netball League.

All three teams suffered losses, with the Division 1 side coming closest to their opponents losing by a margin of two goals.

Unfortunately, that loss means the Hawks Division 1 side has dropped to fourth on the ladder, however they are still five games clear of fifth placed City West Falcons.

The Championship team lost by 13 goals and sit in eighth place on the ladder and the U/19 side lost by 18 goals and sit in seventh place.

Congratulations to Lil O’Sullivan who played her 200th VNL game.
