Premiership player James Frawley will remain in the brown and gold for season 2020, having signed a new one-year deal this week.

The contract extension follows an impressive home and away campaign from the full back, with Frawley continually demonstrating his ability to nullify opposition key forwards.

GM-Football Graham Wright says the 30-year-old continues to play an important role within Hawthorn’s structures.

“James is such a valuable player for us,” Wright said.

“His one-on-one defensive efforts are second to none, and he’s got a great work ethic.

“As is the case for a lot of defenders, sometimes his hard work on the field can go unnoticed and he may not publicly receive the plaudits he deserves. 

“But he’s certainly held in high regard by everyone here at the club, and we’re thrilled to have him locked in for the 2020 season.”

Frawley started his career with the Demons, selected with Pick 12 in the 2006 National Draft.

After debuting in Round 9 the following year, the youngster quickly found his niche in the backline, becoming an All Australian defender just three years later (2010).

In late 2014, after eight seasons and 139 games with Melbourne, Frawley became one of the first players to exercise his free agency rights.

18 games after swapping the red and blue for the brown and gold, he was awarded his first premiership medallion after keeping Coleman Medallist Josh Kennedy goalless in the 2015 Grand Final.

Frawley has now notched up 86 games with the Hawks, taking his career tally to 225.
