Warnie from The Traders, AFL.com.au’s NAB AFL Fantasy experts, will be taking a look at the Hawks each week exclusive to hawthornfc.com.au.
Last week
The Hawks kicked off 2015 with a 62 point with over the Cats and looked good on the Fantasy scoreboard outscoring their rivals 1689 to 1451. Jordan Lewis (MID $643,000) finished last year as one of the most reliable scorers in our Fantasy squads and he started off in the same fashion with 37 disposals. Lewis was the second highest scoring player of the weekend (behind Brad Ebert’s 163) and enjoyed a $22,000 price increase.
Ever the Fantasy General, Luke Hodge (DEF/MID $559,000) should be in everyone’s back line. However, astute coaches would have liked the look of Josh Gibson (DEF $457,000) over the NAB Challenge where he averaged 101.5. Gibson managed 110 points and a $15,000 price rise on Monday.
Top 5 scorers v Geelong
- Jordan Lewis (MID $643,000) 156
- Luke Hodge (DEF/MID $559,000) 115
- Josh Gibson (DEF $457,000) 110
- Jarryd Roughead (FWD $501,000) 87
- Luke Breust (FWD $431,000) 87
On the radar
With many coaches frustrated with their Fantasy defenders in round one, Gibson’s role make him an interesting option to bring in. He took 11 marks, which was nice to see as he added a few +6’s (mark and kicks) to his score running out of the back 50. If Matthew Suckling (DEF $432,000) can get involved in the “kick to kick” in the back line he may also be an option to consider.
What's coming up
One of my pre-season locks, Grant Birchall (DEF $464,000) will hopefully return this week against Essendon. I’ll wait on him for a week or two, but he should be on your Fantasy watch-list. Last time the Hawks took on the Bombers, they won by four pints and Shaun Burgoyne (DEF/MID $485,000) top scored with 123 points.
