Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge has provided an update on Jack Scrimshaw after he entered the league's concussion protocols following Friday night's 26-point win over Essendon.

Burge also commented on the progression of James Worpel, James Blanck, Calsher Dear and Sam Butler through their respective recoveries in this week's injury update.

Jack Scrimshaw - Concussion (1-2 weeks)

"He obviously had a pretty nasty collision during the game last week which resulted in him being subbed out with concussion as well as some facial damage. He's had some minor surgery, just some corrective stuff, which is done now. He's at home and recovering. We'll get him moving during the week through the concussion protocols into next week. We'll have more of an update next week on him."

James Worpel - Ankle (2-3 weeks)

"He's pulled up really well. He's out of the boot and has started some low-level activity like walking, strength work and calf work just to get his ankle range moving. We haven't started any Alter G running just yet but we're hoping to move into that at the end of the week and have a further timeline on how this is looking next week."

James Blanck - Knee (3-4 weeks)

"He fully trained today. He did every drill, match-play, competitive work, the whole lot. He was blowing pretty hard today from his first full-on training session with the team. Doing match-play and that type of training is the next step. He was really good today, really positive."

Calsher Dear - Back (TBC)

"He had his 12-week scan last week and that told us everything we wanted to hear which means now we can progress his level of conditioning in the rehab space. He'll increase his volume of running, his kicking will increase, his jumping, agility, all those things. So now we're actually doing what we would do in a pre-season and preparing him for football. The next step is he'll have another scan at the 16-week mark and that will hopefully give us the news that we'll progress to football in particular and full training with the group. Right now, we are in a higher loading phase of conditioning and we've certainly got the comfort levels now that he's ready for that."

Sam Butler - Leg (TBC)

"He had the screw out of his ankle after the camp. We go back about five weeks from now. It was just a little bit of irritation that we were dealing with which wasn't allowing us to get back to where we were. Now we're at that point where he's actually loading well again and we're considering putting him back into some drills next week. We've made some real progression in the last week to two weeks and it's looking really positive. Hopefully next week onwards, I'm here talking about him participating in skills.
