HAWTHORN will receive a second round draft pick for unrestricted free agent Matt Suckling.
Dual premiership player Suckling, 27, has signed a three-year deal with Western Bulldogs.
Based on Suckling’s age and the Bulldogs’ contract offer, the AFL has deemed the Hawks’ compensation as a second round pick, which currently stands at pick 39.
The compensation pick gives the Hawks three picks inside the current top 40 – picks 18, 38 and 39.
The AFL also advised Hawthorn that if the club exchanged the compensation obtained from losing Matt Suckling, or the net compensation from losing and gaining a free agent, it would no longer eligible to gain a restricted or unrestricted free agent.
