Tasmanian Premier, Will Hodgman tonight announced that the Tasmanian Government and the Hawthorn Football Club have extended their partnership for a further five years.
Speaking at the club’s President’s Function, Mr Hodgman said he is delighted that the club will continue to play home games in Tasmania until 2021.
“Tasmanians love their football and we have embraced the Hawthorn Football Club as one of our own,” Premier Will Hodgman said.
“Over the past 14 years we’ve stood side-by-side as the team worked hard to get to the top, and we’ve revelled in sharing the recent back-to-back premierships.
“We are so excited for what the next five years barracking for the Hawks will bring.
“This new deal is a win-win for everyone. This is not just fantastic news for footy fans, this brings a welcome boost to tourism and hospitality, our economy and our community.”
Tasmania became naming rights sponsor of the Hawthorn Football Club in 2006.
Recent studies have valued Hawthorn’s economic impact in Tasmania and national brand exposure to total $29.5 million in 2014.
Since 2006, Tasmania and Hawthorn have formed a strong and successful partnership which has seen the club visit numerous communities across the state, contribute to local charities, community groups and other sporting associations.
The Hawks have also grown their Tasmanian membership figure year-on-year since 2007, reaching a record number of 8948 members in 2015.
Hawthorn President Andrew Newbold said the club was thrilled to extend their partnership with Tasmania.
“We’re very proud of our unique, long-term partnership with Tasmania and we are delighted that our presence in the state will continue for another five years,” Newbold said.
“We have been playing home games at Aurora Stadium since 2001 and our relationship with Tasmania has grown over this period, well and truly withstanding the test of time.
“Hawthorn is committed to extending their footprint across the state, and we look forward to developing even more innovative ways in which to connect with the people of Tasmania over the coming years.”
The Tasmanian Government will release further details about their partnership with the Hawthorn Football Club in the coming weeks.
