Star veteran Shaun Burgoyne has re-signed with Hawthorn for 2016.

The three-time premiership utility was due to come out of contract at the end of this season but has penned a deal for him to play on next year.

The Hawks' deal with Burgoyne, 32, follows the re-signings of fellow key veterans Sam Mitchell, 32, and Luke Hodge, 30, for 2016 in the past two months.

Burgoyne said re-signing was "an easy decision to make".

Burgoyne has finished in the top 10 of the Hawks' best and fairest award in four of his five completed seasons at Waverley, including sixth-place finishes in the past two seasons.

The former Port Adelaide player has shown no signs of slowing down this season, averaging 20 possessions a game over the first six rounds.

Burgoyne was one of Hawthorn's best players in its imposing round one win over Geelong and its round two loss to Essendon, while he stood up more than any other Hawk in last round's upset loss to Greater Western Sydney with 31 disposals.

Burgoyne joined Hawthorn in the 2009 trade period from Port Adelaide, with the Power receiving picks No.9 and No.16 in a three-way deal involving Essendon that also saw Hawks premiership forward Mark Williams join the Bombers.

The 2006 All Australian played 157 games for the Power from 2002-09, including the 2004 premiership triumph over the Brisbane Lions, and finished runner-up in the club's 2006 best and fairest award.

He has played 118 games for the Hawks and was a key member of the 2013-14 premiership teams.
