TWENTY years ago, Hawthorn landed star big man Paul Salmon in a three-way trade.
At the end of the 1995 season, the Hawks were involved in a trade with Essendon and Adelaide Crows, which was a success for all three clubs.
The Hawks picked up Salmon, and pick 25 in the draft, which the club used to recruit Daniel Chick.
Ruckman-forward Salmon won the Hawks’ best and fairest in 1996 and 1997, was All Australian in 1997 and was named in the club’s Team of the Century.
He played exactly 100 matches for the Hawks across five seasons.
Chick was also a more than handy recruit, winning the Hawks’ best and fairest in 2000. He played 149 games for the Hawks, before spending the last five years of his career with West Coast Eagles.
Essendon received Sean Wellman from the Crows and Paul Barnard from the Hawks, both of whom played in the Bombers’ 2000 premiership win.
Adelaide received Darren Jarman from the Hawks and pick 45, with Jarman starring in the Crows’ 1997 and 1998 premierships.
