HAWTHORN’S Luke Hodge has received a $450 fine and the loss of ten demerit points for registering a blood alcohol reading of 0.068 on Thursday night.
He was driving home from a social gathering when the offence occurred. The club was aware that Hodge was attending the event.
Hodge notified the club immediately and cooperated fully with police.
GM – Football Operations Chris Fagan said Hodge is extremely remorseful and embarrassed.
“Luke understands that as a father of two young boys and a leader of our footy club he is in a position to set an example for the community in regards to road safety, and is extremely remorseful,” Fagan said.
“He had a couple of drinks throughout the night and thought he was okay to drive, but makes no excuse for his poor judgement.
“This is a reminder for our entire playing group and the community that when in doubt, to take public transport or catch a taxi.
“We are disappointed in Luke’s error of judgement, the club has spoken to him and the police about the matter and we believe the penalty he has received is appropriate,” Fagan said.
