BOX Hill Hawks have returned to the top of the VFL ladder after a 74-point win against Casey Scorpions at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday.

The Hawks produced a strong four-quarter performance, increasing their lead over the Scorpions at every change.

After establishing a 14-point advantage at quarter-time, the Hawks built a 27-point lead by the major break.

A six-goal-to-none third term helped extend that lead beyond 10 goals at the final change, as the hosts ran out 18.15 (123) to 7.7 (49) victors.

Hawthorn-listed forward Sm Grimley and Patrick Lawlor both finished with four goals, while Tim O'Brien continued his strong form with two, and eight other players kicked one apiece.

Midfielder Jonathan Simpkin was again named among the Hawks' best, as were defender Kurt Heatherley, utility Brendan Whitecross and ruckman Marc Pittonet.

It was the Hawks' 12th win of the season, which sees the leapfrog Williamstown and move a game clear at the top of the table.
