AS another massive year draws to a close, hawthornfc.com.au has decided to count down some of the Hawks' best on-field moments of 2015.

There were plenty - and we're convinced there were plenty not on this list that deserve to be - because it has been another exceptional year for the team.

So here we go.... the top 15 moments of 2015, starting with 15 to 11.

15. Hawks kick off 2015 with a bang

Hawthorn returned to the MCG for the first time since mounting the dais as back-to-back premiers in Round 1 – and returned in style.

The Hawks kicked off their flag defence with a crushing 62-point victory over arch nemesis, Geelong, in front of almost 74,000 fans.

Jordan Lewis, Sam Mitchell and Shaun Burgoyne were amongst the best, while Luke Breust hauled in a bag of five goals, with Paul Puopolo and Jarryd Roughead kicking three a piece.

‘Poppy’ provided one of 2015’s aerial highlights when he flew high over a pack of Hawks and Cats in the third quarter to take an early contender for mark of the year.

14. Lake pulls in a classic

As the Hawks faced the Sydney Swans for the first time since the 2014 Grand Final, Brian Lake provided Hawks fans with one of the more inconspicuous highlights of 2015.

Matched up against Kurt Tippett, the pair jostled for position as the Swans sent the ball long inside 50.

While Tippet attempted to affect a spoil, the ball modestly landed in Lake’s open left palm, earning him a nomination for Round 8’s Mark of the Year.

And while we're talking Brian Lake... How about that smother?

13. Roughead returns, Smith celebrates 100 games, 89-point win

Having lost to the Swans in Round 8’s grand final replay, the Hawks marked the return of Jarryd Roughead, as well as Isaac Smith’s 100th game, in emphatic style.

After having a melanoma removed from his lip and missing two weeks of action, Roughead led the Hawks with five goals on their way to defeating the Swans by 89 points at ANZ Stadium.

12. Breust dribbles a goal after shrugging tackle in Cyril’s 150th

Chasing a top-two spot and a home qualifying final, Hawthorn travelled west for a wet and windy clash with fellow top-four aspirants, West Coast Eagles.

While the Hawks would get up by 14 points in a tight tussle, it was Luke Breust who provided one of the goals of the season to get the Hawks started.

Shrugging off an Eagles’ tackler, Breust dribbled through a goal from the boundary line, before finishing the night with three goals and 22 touches.

11. Frawley goes forward with success, but celebration hits wrong target

Taking on the Lions in Launceston with a top-four spot all but secured, the Hawks shared the load with 12 individual goal-kickers, overcoming the Brisbane Lions by 72 points.

While Jack Gunston kicked four goals in his 100th game, it was the performance of recruit James Frawley that caught the eye.

Accustomed to a key defensive role, Frawley was swung forward with great effect, finishing with his first three goals in brown and gold.

His first emphatically sailed through from outside 50, and the fact he had spent almost the entirety of 2015 deep in defence showed.

Frawley’s goal celebration clearly needing practise, after a high-five went totally wrong, hitting teammate Brad Hill square in the face.
