FIRST-YEAR Hawk Daniel Howe keeps getting better with each game he plays at the highest level.
And with a qualifying final against West Coast Eagles the Hawks’ next assignment, Howe has done his chances of a finals debut no harm.
The 19-year-old utility had his best game yet in the Hawks’ final home-and-away match for the season, a 57-point win against Carlton on Saturday.
Now with four games under his belt, Howe said he was growing in confidence.
“Our first half wasn’t great, but I think we worked into the game well and it’s a good win heading into finals,” he said after the win against the Blues.
“The more you play, the more you get used to the pace and the style of play.
“With each game you play your confidence rises and you feel more comfortable.
“I’ve learnt the system at Box Hill and have come in and just done what I’ve been doing there, and trying to implement that at the higher level.”
Howe finished with a career-high 21 disposals against the Blues, plus nine marks, five tackles and four one-percenters.
His disposal efficiency was a touch over 90 percent, ranking him fifth on the ground for the Hawks.
“I’ve been playing mostly back, but I’ve rolled through the midfield a couple of times which is nice,” he said.
“It’s good to have that versatility in my game where the coach can throw me anywhere, so I’m liking that role.”
As for finals, the youngster isn’t looking too far ahead – he knows plenty of hard work still lies ahead to cement a spot in the Hawks’ side to play the Eagles on Friday night.
