Hawthorn Football Club has launched a ‘deadly’ new partnership, signing a deal with Indigenous health initiative, Deadly Choices.
Deadly Choices was launched in 2010 by the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health in Queensland. It aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to make healthy choices for themselves and their families.
The new partnership was launched over the weekend in Darwin and Katherine as part of the Hawks annual community camp in the region. Hundreds of students from across the state attended the launch event, where they were educated on the importance of leading healthy lifestyles and receiving regular health checks.
Speaking about the partnership, Hawthorn defender Jarman Impey said he hoped the partnership would encourage more young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to prioritise their health.
“Our goal is to ensure all Indigenous kids across Australia are focusing on their health and wellbeing,” Impey said.
“By using Hawthorn’s brand to promote the Deadly Choices initiative, we hope this will encourage more young people to get regular health checks.”
In an incentive to encourage young people to lead a healthy lifestyle, Deadly Choices have worked with the club to design a new brown and gold t-shirt that young people will receive on completion of their health check.
Hawthorn’s Indigenous Program is proudly supported by the Epic Good Foundation. Together Epic Good and Hawthorn aim to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth in the areas of health, education and employment.
