The lock: Jaeger O’Meara $695,000

Jaeger O’Meara made an impressive return to form in the 2018 season. Following the year previous where he managed just six games and a 70.7 AFL Fantasy average, O’Meara was outstanding in 2018, registering a career-high 95.8 average through his 20 home and away games. Over the eight matches he played between Round 10 and 19, the 24-year-old averaged 108.5 points and falling below the tonne just twice over the period. With Tom Mitchell’s injury providing more midfield opportunities, O’Meara may well go to another level again in 2019.

The smoky: Tom Scully $446,000

This time last year Tom Scully had a $576,000 price tag on him. Despite Scully still recovering from the season-ending ankle injury he suffered in Round 2, this $130,000 discount should be mouth-watering for those coaches on the hunt for a bargain. The Hawks recruit is a proven fantasy stud, averaging 96 in a career-best year in 2016. As Scully continues his progression towards a comeback, eyes will be fixed on him as a return date solidifies.

The rookie: James Cousins $329,000

James Cousins is a proven ball-winner. Through 16 games for Box Hill last year, the 20-year-old averaged 25 possessions, five tackles and four marks. He also surpassed 30 disposals on four occasions at the state league level. Cousins may not have transitioned these numbers into his senior outings just yet – his career-high disposal number is 17 in Round 5 last year – but the Hawthorn coaching panel have been impressed by the industrious midfielder’s summer. The tragedy of the Tom Mitchell injury just may be the making of this upcoming on-baller.
