Not only did Hawthorn’s VFLW side make a name for itself on-field last year, but the club’s culture also became renowned around the women’s football world.
The recruitment of former Casey Demon Brooke Struylaart is tribute to that.
After four games with the Demons VFLW side in 2018, Struylaart was attracted to the idea of joining the Hawks.
“I think I just needed the change and I’m really enjoying my experience here so far,” Struylaart said.
“The environment and the culture is great here.
“I’m loving every bit of it.”
The AFLW Academy member had her own taste of success in 2018 when she was a part of the Hallam Secondary College side that defeated Ballarat Grammar to take out the Division 1 Senior Girls’ Herald Sun Shield premiership.
Through her time in the VFLW last year as well as her six games with the Dandenong Stingrays in the Girls TAC Cup, Struylaart’s kicking and goal sense stood out as the youngster’s key strengths.
Struylaart’s best game for Casey last year came in Round 5 when her two-goal performance helped the Demons overcome Williamstown by 12 points.
The 19-year-old has arrived at Hawthorn with a great attitude to build on her game.
Struylaart is determined to improve her tackling and fitness levels to become a consistent contributor at the Hawks.
“But that’s what pre-season is for and I’m looking forward to working towards that more.”
