Hawthorn midfielder Shaun Burgoyne says watching younger players develop has been a shining light whilst he has been restricted to the sidelines over the past month.
In what the veteran described as a 'danger game' for the club, Burgoyne said it was encouraging to see those less-experienced stepping up in important moments.
“We’ve got some young players in there just learning as they’re going and they’re getting some valuable experience,” Burgoyne said.
“Generally as an older player you just like to see young guys and the excitement they bring to the game.”
In addition to nominating youngsters such as James Worpel, Mitch Lewis and James Cousins, the 36-year-old said he has also been impressed by Chad Wingard in his first games as a Hawk.
“Chad Wingard is four games into his Hawthorn career.
“He’s been exciting and he is only going to get better.”
