Hawthorn forward Jack Gunston will be held out of the practice match against Carlton on Thursday night.
Gunston is experiencing ITB friction, which has hindered his past week of training.
The Hawks medical staff are planning to scale back the 27-year-old's program for the next four-to-five days.

Taking this short break in the training program will allow the All Australian goal kicker to take advantage of the Hawks’ upcoming four-day break.
Hawthorn’s GM-Football Graham Wright says the priority is for Gunston to be fit and ready for the start of the season.
“We are taking a precautious approach to ensure Jack is ready to go for Round 1,” Wright said.
“Although he will miss this week’s practice match against Carlton, we are confident he will still take part in some of the JLT Series.”
Wright said he expects Gunston to be taking the field against Richmond at University of Tasmania Stadium on Saturday March 9.
