The Hawthorn match committee has some difficult decisions to make ahead of Round 1 this weekend.

Young pair Jack Scrimshaw and Dylan Moore will be hopeful they are given the opportunity to pull on a Hawthorn jumper for the first time, having both had strong summer campaigns.

While Scrimshaw played four games at the Gold Coast Suns, it would be Moore’s senior debut if he is called upon.

After averaging 25 touches through his two JLT Series appearances, midfielder James Cousins seems likely to assume an on-ball role on Saturday.

The void left by the injured Tom Mitchell has been oft-discussed throughout the off-season and Cousins has been the man to put his hand up in his star teammate’s absence.

Defenders Dave Mirra, Kaiden Brand and Tim O’Brien will be vying for a key defensive post alongside veteran James Frawley.

The three-pronged Adelaide attack of Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins and Tom Lynch will be considered when Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson is deciding how much height he wants to take over to Adelaide.

Ruckman Jon Ceglar will also be hoping that Clarkson continues his preference to play two ruckmen as the 28-year-old enters his seventh season in the brown and gold.
