Box Hill has started its season with back-to-back wins, after overpowering Sandringham to a 41-point victory on Sunday.
The crowd who arrived early for the curtain raiser at Marvel Stadium were treated to a hot and physical contest, with both teams struggling to score up to half-time.
But the Hawks came out firing after the main break, putting their foot down to boot 11 second-half goals to the Zebras’ four to continue their unbeaten campaign.
Assistant Coach Torin Baker was pleased with the side’s performance and gives us his review of each AFL-listed player.
Tim O’Brien (20 disposals, 2 goals, 7 marks)
“This week TO had a change of role in that he went forward for three-quarters of the game. He has had some success in the past as a forward, and his mobility and athleticism made him one of the more damaging forwards on the ground. He was able to hit the scoreboard and also provide good connection with our forwards.” TB
Changkuoth Jiath (12 disposals, 3 marks, 5 tackles)
“CJ’s last two games have been at a really high level of performance for himself. His ability to halve a contest and even win it himself was the most impressive factor in his game. He’s building some really solid form.” TB
Kaiden Brand (20 disposals, 12 marks, 6 rebound 50s)
“KB has been a really consistent and reliable defender for us since coming back from injury from the last JLT game. He’s been a steadying influence down there, not only with his experience but also with his ability to take marks off the opposition boot and then make good decisions by hand and foot.” TB
Damon Greaves (11 disposals, 3 tackles, 3 rebound 50s)
“We’ve played Damon in a variety of different roles in recent weeks. His attitude to both roles has been solid, and he’s another one of the boys who is getting more game time and becoming more comfortable and at ease at the level.” TB
Jacob Koschitzke (8 disposals, 1 mark, 1 tackle)
“Kozzy’s now three games back after a limited pre-season. We’ve seen him build into some really nice form. He’s playing his role at the moment, and we are pleased with his progress.” TB
Connor Glass (22 disposals, 5 marks, 5 tackles)
“Connor has embraced a new role for himself as an inside midfielder. He had mid-twenties possessions, and his ability to get from contest to contest is proving that he is able to play that role to good effect.” TB
Will Golds (17 disposals, 3 marks, 1 tackle)
“Will came off a really strong performance last week. He wasn’t quite at that level this week, but he continues to involve himself in the game. We are still educating him about his role and he is another again who is committed to learn and get better.” TB
Harry Jones (22 disposals, 1 goal, 5 tackles)
“Harry’s a real warrior on the inside for us. He gives us great pressure around the ball and wins his fair share of it as well. He’s another one building some nice form.” TB
Marc Pittonet (12 disposals, 36 hit-outs, 2 tackles)
“Pitto had a really good clash with Sandringham’s ruck Billy Longer. We were pleased with his competitiveness, the way he attacked the contest and also his ability to provide a target around the ground.” TB
Mitch Lewis (8 disposals, 1 goal, 5 marks)
“The pleasing thing for Mitch is that he’s been able to put consistent games together in recent times. The most impressive facet this week was his ground level work and his tackling, as opposed to previous weeks where his aerial contest had been the feature of his game. He’s showing good versatility with his game at the moment.” TB
Oliver Hanrahan (10 disposals, 1 goal, 5 inside 50s)
“Ollie had real moments of class in the game. Although not a huge game from an overall output, he continues to show some elements of his game that suggests he can go to the next step with his footy.” TB
Jackson Ross (16 disposals, 3 goals, 5 marks)
“Jackson leads the league goal kicking - kicking eight goals from two games. His defensive work has also been really impressive. So offensively and defensively he’s been able to impact, which is super pleasing for him.” TB
Dylan Moore (28 disposals, 1 goal, 5 tackles)
“Dylan worked his way into the game, playing a combination of midfield and forward. His length runs and ability to get to as many contests, in the end, made him a really damaging performer on the day.” TB
