Two of Hawthorn’s VFLW players have been chosen in the NAB League Girls Team of the Year.
Maddi Shaw and Laura McClelland were named in the team on Sunday at the League’s Best and Fairest night.
Shaw was also the recipient of the Open Universities Australia Personal Growth Award. She was chosen for her volunteer work in Cambodia, where she helped build villages and taught kids how to play footy.
Shaw was named in the NAB League Team’s interchange after a strong season playing for Gippsland Power. She played six games in the brown and gold, demonstrating her skills and her ability to stay composed in defence.
McClelland was named in the NAB League Team as a defender after an impressive season playing for Eastern Ranges.
McClelland was only able to play the last four games of the season for Hawthorn as she spent a lot of the year playing for Vic Metro’s U18 side, earning her a spot in the 2019 U18 All Australian Team.
In October, McClelland will attend the AFLW Draft Combine where she will demonstrate her skills to AFLW clubs in the hopes of being drafted in November.
