A four-goal haul from forward Phoebe McWilliams has earnt her this week’s VFLW MVP.
McWilliams kicked four of the team’s seven goals in the Hawks 13-point win against Richmond at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday morning.
It’s the first time in the club’s history that a player has kicked four goals in a match.
As well as her efforts in front of goal, McWilliams led up the ground to take a number of marks on the half forward line, working well with teammate Rebecca Beeson.
“Phoebe was outstanding all day provide a marking option at half forward and a strong presence inside forward 50,” said coach Paddy Hill.
“Phoebe finished with 17 possessions, five marks and four goals in a standout performance.”
This season McWilliams has been playing both on the wing and in the forward line, however a shake-up after the draw against Carlton saw her play solely in the forward line on the weekend.
“After our draw against Carlton, the coaches looked at our structures and changed things up a bit,” said McWilliams.
“I was just lucky on the day to be able to finish the good work of our team.”
