Clearance is king
A lot has been spoken about centre clearances from Friday night’s game.
In the first quarter the Hawks dominated, doubling the number of clearances of their opponents (12-6).
In the second quarter the Roos midfield stood up, winning 16 clearances for the quarter.
Though the clearances were lop-sided at times the game ended with 36 clearances apiece showing it probably wasn’t the statistic that decided the match.
North stacks on forward pressure
Coming into Friday’s game North were ranked last in the competition for forward 50 pressure.
However, they turned that ranking on its head in the third quarter.
After half time the Kangaroos came out and laid 17 tackles inside their forward 50. Their highest before that was 13 against Carlton in Round 7.
This played a large part in the momentum shift and the Roos scored from 75 per cent of their forward 50 entries in that quarter.
PBs for Worps and Chad
James Worpel is on fire at the moment.
After Friday’s game Clarko made mention that sometimes people forget the youngster is only a second-year player.
His game against North Melbourne was his best to date and he collected a career-high 37 disposals. In the first quarter alone, the Worpedo had seven clearances and 11 possessions.
Chad Wingard was another Hawk to set a new personal best in the brown and gold.
His 29 disposals were the most he’s collected since joining the Hawks. His previous highest was 21 disposals which he collected against the Lions the week prior.
You feel Wingard is building himself up for a strong finish to the year.
