Hawthorn’s VFLW side will welcome back premiership player Phoebe McWilliams this Saturday in its match against Williamstown.

The 33-year-old is a prolific player up forward and was a huge part of the Hawks premiership winning side last season.

McWilliams re-signed with the Hawks at the end of April, coming back from the AFLW having had her first season with the newly formed Cats.

Unfortunately her season at Geelong was cut short when she broke her hand in Round 7.

“I had a bit of a frustrating run with injury this AFLW season," McWilliams said.

“I missed the opening game with hamstring tightness, dislocated two fingers against Brisbane in Round 5 and then broke my hand against GWS two weeks later and missed the final.

“I had surgery on it nine weeks ago. They put six screws in the broken bone and then operated on one of the fingers I dislocated.

“All up I had 24 stitches in my hand.”

After a long recovery from surgery, McWilliams has been named in the side to face Williamstown on Saturday and says she couldn’t be more eager to get back out on the ground.

“I’m really excited to be back out playing this weekend.

“It’s so hard watching from the sidelines.

“I loved my time with the Hawks last year and to be back in Melbourne and playing with my old teammates has been lots of fun.”

Hawthorn will host Williamstown on Saturday, 1st June, at Box Hill City Oval, 11:30am.
