It’s been a long time since these two sides last met, 420 days to be exact. It was round three 2018 where Hawthorn had an eight player effort in front of goals to defeat Carlton by a whopping 51 points.
This Saturday the Hawks will be travelling to La Trobe University to fight for their fifth win of the season.
The Blues have had a reasonably slow start to the season sitting 11th on the ladder after only one win against the Bulldogs in round six. They had a heartbreaking loss last week, going down to the NT Thunder by just two points and will be coming back to Melbourne wanting redemption for the loss.
Hawthorn have had a see-sawing 2019, with its season ledger sitting at four wins to four losses, putting them just inside the top six. They’ll also be hoping to come back with a win on the weekend after their seven point loss to Geelong last week.
Carlton will have a double threat on Saturday in the Hosking twins, Jess and Sarah. Both sisters have delivered impressive performances so far this season. Jess has been named in the best in all six games that she has played and is currently averaging 19.7 disposals. The midfielder turned defender had a huge impact in the game against NT Thunder, even having a presence on the scoreboard despite her role in the backline.
The Hawks have recently been strengthened by impressive performances from members of their leadership group including Lou Wotton and Meg Hutchins.
Wotton is a major asset in the ruck, currently averaging 25.2 hit outs, having had an MVP worthy game against the Bulldogs two weeks ago where she had a season-high 34 hit outs and 13 tackles.
Meg Hutchins, an experienced AFLW player, is currently averaging 17 disposals and has the ability to hit the scoreboard having kicked 3.1 goals for the season.
With the two sides having suffered defeats last week, they will both be looking to get themselves back on the winner’s list come Saturday’s game.
