To assist the Hawks Museum with the continuing task of telling the Hawthorn story, valued support is received from its two membership groups.
The first group, the Glenferrie Gold Life Patrons of the Hawks Museum was established in 2007 and is offered to Hawks fans with a very strong interest in the Club’s history and traditions, who seek a closer affiliation with the museum. Membership to Glenferrie Gold can be obtained by way of a $1,000 contribution, which can be tax deductable when made to the Hawthorn Football Club Foundation. Your membership contribution will be recognized with your name recorded on the Glenferrie Gold Life Patrons Honour Board, an individually numbered badge, certificate of appreciation and an invitation to two annual functions presented by the Hawks Museum.
The second group, The Friends of the Hawks Museum was established in 1995. Its joining fee is $15. In appreciation of their support, the Friends receive the highly collectable Hawks Museum badge, a copy of the Hawks Museum Annual Report and an invitation to the Friends’ annual function.
The valued contributions from both groups enable the museum to further develop its resources in growing the Club Collection, recording the stories, developing new and informative displays, creating an engaging experience for visitors and in facilitating functions of a historical nature.
The Hawks Museum, the home of the Mighty Hawks, tells the story of the people who have made the Hawthorn Football Club the most successful club in the last 58 years with 13 Premierships, 6 Brownlow medals, 8 Norm Smith medals and arguably the two best full forwards in the history of the game.
Established in 1902, Hawthorn has moved through three stages of evolution. Originally, a junior suburban team playing in the Metropolitan Junior Football Association (1902 - 1913), before graduating to the second tier of competition, the Victorian Football Association (1914 - 1924). Then, with the population growth in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Hawthorn was invited to join the highest level of competition, Victorian Football League in 1925. After 37 years of disappointment, Hawthorn broke through and won its first senior premiership in 1961. Hawthorn has since become one of the powers of the now national competition AFL, winning at least one premiership each decade from 1961.
The Hawks Museum first gained accreditation with Museums Australia in 2013, then reaccreditation in 2019. At present Hawthorn has the only accredited museum in the AFL open to its members and the general public. Opening hours, Monday – Friday 9am - 4pm, Adults $2, Children $1
