Hawthorn veteran Shaun Burgoyne will be looking to prove his fitness ahead of this week’s clash with Melbourne.
Burgoyne has missed the last month with a hamstring injury but is set to push his case at Thursday’s training session.
“I’ve been training pretty hard so I’ll be pushing pretty hard for selection this week,” Burgoyne said on Tuesday.
“I’ll hopefully get through training and then hopefully get the call-up after match committee on Thursday.”
Meanwhile a number of young Hawks have put their names forward in selection talks following strong performances in Box Hill’s win over Coburg last week.
Harry Morrison responded to his omission from the senior side in an ideal manner, gathering 32 disposals and booting three goals.
Having played 27 of the last 28 AFL games prior to last week, Morrison will be hoping to make a swift return.
Ruckman Marc Pittonet was also outstanding for the Hawks, winning the ANZAC Medal for a monster performance that included 30 disposals, 42 hit-outs and a goal.
