Hawks fans rejoice; 376-game superstar Shaun Burgoyne will again don the brown and gold in 2020.
Despite interest from rival clubs, the 36-year-old has opted to remain at Waverley, putting pen to paper on a one-year contract extension this week.
GM-Football Graham Wright said the club is delighted by the four-time premiership star’s decision.
“We’re thrilled that Shaun has re-committed to the Hawks,” Wright said.
>“He has put a lot of time into this decision, weighing up the best option for both he, his family and the club, so we’re really pleased with the outcome.
“He’s such an integral player for us and his influence extends far beyond his on-field ability.
“He sets a great example for his teammates through his work ethic and professionalism, and he is an incredible advocate for his fellow Indigenous players.
“After 18 seasons, Shaun is showing no signs of slowing down which is a testament to both his talent and strength of character.”

After being selected with Pick 12 in the 2000 National Draft, Burgoyne began a 157-game stint in the black, white and teal – a journey that culminated in the 2004 AFL premiership.
Since joining the Hawks via a high-profile trade at the end of 2009, Burgoyne has added three more premierships and a further 219 games.
In 2019, he surpassed Adam Goodes’ record for the most games played by an Indigenous player, etching his name in the history books.
The Hawks’ number nine, affectionately known as ‘Silk’, has outlasted his entire draft class and is currently the most experienced player in the competition.
