Defeated Geelong by 24 points
Ladder position: 10th
The Hawks recorded their third win in consecutive weeks when they defeated ladder leaders Geelong by 24-points at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.
Hawthorn’s new look forward line fired with Mitch Lewis and Tim O’Brien kicking three goals apiece. They were assisted by Jack Gunston (two goals), Oliver Hanrahan (one) and James Worpel (one).
At the opposite end of the ground the Hawks defence of James Frawley, James Sicily and Ben Stratton kept Geelong’s dangerous forward line to just eight goals for the match.
Liam Shiels had a day out in his 200th game collecting a game-high 29 disposals and kicking two goals in a best on ground performance.
The Hawks lead at every change and were up by four goals when the final siren sounded.
VFL
Lost to Richmond by 14 points
Ladder position: 6th
Five goals to small forward Mat Walker wasn’t enough to get Box Hill over the line when they played Richmond at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday afternoon.
Club stalwart David Mirra played his 150th game for the club, however his side got off to a slow start in what were perfect weather conditions for football.
Richmond extended their lead quarter by quarter and by three quarter time it looked like it was all over with the Tigers leading by 37 points at the final break.
The Hawks had other plans adding six goals to their tally to the Tigers’ two, but it was too little too late with Richmond holding on to win by 14 points.
Andrew Moore had 32 disposals and Jonathon Ceglar had his second good game in as many weeks with 26 hit-outs and 20 disposals against Richmond’s Toby Nankervis.
VFLW
Defeated Richmond by 13 points
Ladder position: 5th
Hawthorn’s VFLW side were the first to play in a double header against Richmond at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday morning.
Coming off the back of a draw with Carlton the previous week, the Hawks were determined to make amends and got off to a strong start kicking two goals in the opening quarter.
The Hawks were able to keep the Tigers goalless in the second quarter whilst adding two further goals to their tally, extending their lead to 16 points at the main break.
Richmond came back in the fourth term kicking two goals but a settling goal to the Hawks with six minutes remaining put the win out of reach of the Tigers.
The Hawks came away with the win by 13 points.
Rebecca Beeson was outstanding in the midfield collecting 35 possessions as was Rosie Dillon who had 19 disposals and two goals.
Netball
Championship ladder position: 8th
Division 1 ladder position: 4th
Under 19 ladder position: 7th
Hawks Netball played against the Boroondara Express in Round 17 of the Victorian Netball League and recorded one win from their three matches.
The Division 1 side continued their winning ways with a 10-goal victory over the Express. They now look likely to finish in the second position with finals starting in the coming weeks.
The Championship Division team lost by nine goals and the U19 had a narrow loss by five goals.

Wheelchair
Bye
Ladder position: 4th
The club’s wheelchair team had a bye this weekend.
The results of Round 7 didn’t change the ladder positions and therefore they remain in fourth position on the ladder.
Blind
Defeated Bombers by 50 points
Ladder position: 3rd
Hawthorn’s blind team played against the Bombers on the weekend in Round 2 of the VBFL.
Following a hefty defeat in Round 1 the Hawks bounced back to beat the Bombers by 50 points.
Their convincing win has moved them into third place on the ladder.
