Jarryd Roughead has been omitted from Hawthorn’s Round 8 team and will instead line up for Box Hill this Sunday.
The four-time premiership player is one of two confirmed outs ahead of the Hawks’ clash against GWS, with Chad Wingard (hamstring soreness) the other.
GM-Football Graham Wright said the difficult decision to omit Roughead was made with the team’s best interests at the fore.
“Jarryd has been such an incredible contributor within our football club for the best part of 15 years,” Wright said.
“By his own admission, his recent form hasn’t been up to the standard he sets for himself.
“He’s the ultimate professional, so we know he’ll continue to push for selection via the VFL and keep looking for ways to improve.”
Meanwhile, Wingard will also miss the clash with a minor hamstring complaint.
“Chad presented with a minor hamstring issue following last week’s game and we don’t want to take the risk.
“We’ve opted to take a cautious approach and we’re hopeful he’ll be right to go next week.”
James Frawley is back after recovering from a hamstring injury, and is joined in the extended squad by James Cousins (back from suspension), Jack Scrimshaw (managed), Jonathon Ceglar, Harry Morrison and Conor Glass.
The final team will be confirmed at 5pm on Friday afternoon via hawthornfc.com.au
