On a windy day at Trevor Barker Beach Oval Hawthorn’s defence was put under immense pressure when they met the Southern Saints in Round 15 of the VFLW.
The Saints have two of the best tall forwards in the competition and with a strong breeze Hawthorn’s backline was under fire.
As Hawthorn’s tallest defender Talia Radan stood up for her side often finding herself on the last line of defence.
Radan had 18 disposals, two marks and kept St Kilda’s tall forwards to one goal for the game.
“Talia was very important for us on the last line of defence playing on some of the best forwards in the competition,” said coach Paddy Hill.
“She had 18 disposals and took a couple of excellent marks for us at crucial times in the match.”
Radan’s two best matches have been against the Saints this season with the 31-year-old collecting 18 disposals on both occasions.
The Hawks will be hoping for another big game from the former Melbourne and Adelaide AFLW player when they meet Collingwood in the final round of the season this Saturday.
With a place in finals on the line, Hawthorn needs a win against the Magpies to secure their spot in the top six.
