Hawthorn has chosen not to take part in the mid-season rookie draft, opting to pass on its sole selection (Pick 10) on Monday night.

The Hawks acquired a pick in the draft after moving defender Tim Mohr (knee) to the long-term injury list, thus opening up a rookie list position.

However, according to National Recruiting Manager Mark McKenzie, the club chose to retain the list position in hope of maintaining more flexibility across the course of the season.

“We came into tonight’s draft with an open mind,” McKenzie said.

“With the way it fell, we decided to pass on our selection.

“With a rookie list position available, this will give us some flexibility in terms of our Category B Rookies, allowing them to be upgraded if they are in line for senior selection."

The Hawks were one of two teams to pass on their picks, with Adelaide also not taking part in the draft.
