What to expect

Fremantle have endured a difficult season in 2018.

They currently sit 13th on the ladder, detached by two wins from the final 12 still vying for finals contention.

There has been the odd highlight, with wins over Port Adelaide, Adelaide and Essendon, but, ultimately, they have struggled against sides who look destined for September action.

Ross Lyon is leading a side that has a preference for uncontested possession, where they rank seventh league-wide compared to their contested possession rating of 16th.

The Dockers are among the best teams at looking after the ball, rating seventh for marks and with a disposal efficiency just 1.6% shy of competition leaders Hawthorn and Collingwood.

But their ability to generate scoring opportunities from these possessions has been lacking.

They have entered their forward 50 on the third-least occasions of any club in the competition this year, averaging just 48.8 per game.

This correlates to their 15th-placed ranking for points scored this year, averaging just 72.1 points per game.

Player to watch

Lachie Neale is among just eight players in the league to be averaging at least 30 possessions per game in 2018.

Neale is one of the premiere midfielders in the competition, with his ability to win the ball on the inside and outside of the contest.

Across his 130-game career, the 25-year old has not fared well against the Hawks, winning just one of his nine encounters with the brown and gold.

Individually, as well, the midfielder averages just 21.7 touches against the Hawks, his second lowest average against every opposition side in front of only Collingwood.

Nevertheless, Neale is in form, averaging 31.5 possessions, five inside 50s and 7.5 clearances over the past fortnight and he will be one who the Hawks keep a close eye on this Sunday.
