Hawthorn might be coming off two impressive wins, and the Gold Coast might not have registered a victory since Round 5, but Alastair Clarkson isn’t taking any chances ahead of his side’s Round 14 clash.
Speaking to the media on Friday morning, Clarkson conceded that the Hawks’ recent history against the Suns has been ordinary at best.
“We got whacked by them up in Queensland last year in Round 3, and then the return game down at the MCG was a bit closer, but they still got the chocolates that day too,” Clarkson said.
Despite last year’s losses, the Hawks will go into tomorrow’s hit out red hot favourites, with the Suns currently struggling in 15th position on the AFL ladder.
But, the four-time premiership coach said he will not let the lowly form of Stuart Dew’s men soften his side’s resolve.
“Despite ladder positions and form… Gold Coast presents a pretty formidable challenge for us.
“We need to address our previous ‘Gold Coast form’ rather than looking at what’s happened in the last couple of weeks.
Hawthorn and Gold Coast have met at UTAS Stadium four times, and the Hawks have emerged victorious on each occasion.
The game will kick off at 1.45pm, with all kids 14 and under admitted for free.
