Hawthorn has unveiled its new guernsey numbers for the 2019 season.

For the first time since Max Bailey wore the guernsey in 2009, the Hawks have returned the number one to its playing list.

20-year-old Harry Morrison has been given the honour, following in the footsteps of his godfather, the late premiership player Ken Judge, who wore it for 72 games during the 1980s.

With the decision made to reinstate the number one onto Hawthorn’s list, GM-Football Graham Wright said the club saw Morrison as the perfect recipient because of his family connection.

“The number one guernsey has been reserved for our fans for almost a decade,” Wright explained.

“It’s been a really special initiative that we value within our club, and the number one fan program will certainly continue for years to come, albeit under a different name.

“As a club, we felt fans and members alike were ready to see the number one back out on the field.

“Harry is a promising young player and a great clubman, and he’s humbled to get the opportunity to share his godfather’s jumper number.”

Promising young Hawk James Worpel has been handed the number five, a guernsey made famous by the likes of Sam Mitchell, Andy Collins and the late Peter Crimmins.

Fellow youngster Mitch Lewis will don the number 8, left vacant after premiership Hawk Taylor Duryea departed for the Bulldogs at the end of 2018.

Irish duo Conor Nash and Conor Glass have been entrusted with numbers 11 and 13, while Changkuoth Jiath has moved up the order to number 29.

Chad Wingard will inherit the number 20, the same number he wore for seven seasons with the Power. Fellow recruits Tom Scully, Jack Scrimshaw and Darren Minchington will don 21, 35 and 38 respectively.

The number 33 has been handed to young Aboriginal draftee Mathew Walker, following the retirement of four-time premiership star Cyril Rioli in July this year.

Hawthorn’s first draft pick Jacob Koschitzke will wear 34, with rookies Tim Mohr (39), Damon Greaves (44) and Will Golds (45) rounding out a total of 15 changes ahead of the 2019 season.
