Harry Morrison played his fifth game on the weekend against St Kilda, featuring amongst his side’s best players in their 35-point win. 

Morrison had a career-high 25 disposals, eight marks, two tackles and five inside 50s, while he also kicked the first goal of his career. 

The 19-year old has made an impressive start to his AFL career, which kicked off in style against the Western Bulldogs in Round 23 last year when he gathered 21 disposals on debut. 

Since then, the number 74 pick in the 2016 national draft has continued to rack up big numbers. 

In fact, his tally of 92 disposals to this point in his career is bettered by only four of his current teammates, impressive given the fact that Hawthorn currently has 15 premiership players, seven All Australians, a Norm Smith Medallist and a Coleman Medallist in its ranks. 

Naturally, Tom Mitchell leads the way, having gathered 112 touches in his opening five matches for the Swans, including a 31-possession game against Adelaide in his second senior appearance.

Jaeger O’Meara (97 disposals in his first five games), Isaac Smith (96) and Brendan Whitecross (95) are the only others to have bettered Morrison’s feat.

Before their Round 6 clash with the Hawks, the Saints were the competition leader for uncontested possessions, averaging 256 per game. 

It was going to be a key challenge for the Hawks to match them in this area, and hinder Alan Richardson’s side from getting their game going. 

As it happened, the Hawks won the uncontested disposal battle 276 to 217.

Morrison was one of the leaders for the Hawks in this statistic, with 19 of his 25 disposals uncontested.

It reflected the second-year player’s high workrate, a key feature of his game.

Ahead of the season, Hawthorn Coach Alastair Clarkson nominated Morrison as one of the best youngsters on the Hawks list, saying he believed he had the potential to become a star. 

“He has the temperament to become a really fine player,” Clarkson said in February.

“Will he get to A-grade status?

“It is too early to say definitively but there are signs that he could."
