Coming off just their second loss for the season, the Hawks entered their Round 14 encounter with the Eagles welcoming back midfielders Shane Crawford and key defender Trent Croad. with Tim Boyle and Travis Tuck making way, while Tim Clarke was a late inclusion for Stuart Dew.
The Eagles meanwhile had only managed the two wins for the season so far and started heavy underdogs for the Friday night clash at the MCG.
QT: Jarryd Roughead broke the deadlock mid-way through he first term, snapping the first goal of the game after receiving a handball from Tim Clarke.
The Hawks pushed ahead through majors to Crawford, who nailed one from inside the centre-square, and Michael Osbourne, while a Luke Hodge goal saw the side sit 28 points ahead at the first break with the Eagles held goalless.

HT: West Coast key forward Ashley Hansen got the Eagles on the board within the opening 90 seconds, before the in-form Lance Franklin broke through for his first.
Goals to Hansen and fellow forward Ben McKinley edged the Eagles to within 14 points before the Hawks streamed ahead with five of the next six goals – two to Franklin, three to Roughead – to open up a 36-point gap at half time.
3QT: Again it was Hansen who landed the early goal for his side as the Eagles showed some pluck to kick the first three goals and narrow the deficit to 19 points, as the likes of Matt Priddis and Daniel Kerr ran rampant through the middle of the ground.
Ruckman Brent Renouf found himself on report for a high elbow on Adam Selwood before Franklin increased his tally to four goals late in the term, as the Hawks went into the last term ahead by 28.
FT: Jarryd Roughead all but quashed any hope of an Eagles fight-back when he goaled in the opening minute, as the Hawks soon began to run over the top of their opposition.
Hodge landed two goals in a row, while versatile forward Mark Williams also hit the scoreboard.
Roughead capped a sensational night with his sixth goal as the Hawks’ lead ballooned out past 50 points, while majors to Franklin (five goals) and defender Grant Birchall, who sent one through from outside 50, saw the Hawks runout 57-point victors.
