The Hawthorn VFLW side consolidated its top four position as it overcame the Southern Saints by 33 points at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday. 

It was an impressive performance by the Hawks, who restricted the sixth-placed Saints to just one goal for the day.

The Hawks are the only side in the competition yet to concede 100 points this season, with their stingy defence becoming a key part of their game.

Hawthorn VFLW defender Ebony Nixon says the confidence and belief within the group is continuing to build.

“We know that if we play the style of footy we want to play and we move the footy how we want to move it, we can take it up to any side,” Nixon said.

“But it is just about getting that consistency now and having the bravery to play the footy that we want to play to take on those top sides.” 

Former Eastern Devil Sarah McNamara played her first game in a brown and gold jumper in the Round 6 clash. 

McNamara’s enthusiasm and attitude were symbolic of the Hawks’ inspired performance. 

“The culture here is fantastic,” McNamara said. 

“You’ve really stepped up into another level of professionalism here. 

“So, it is really great to be a part of that.”

Hawthorn now turn their attention to Essendon next week, who they will again meet at Box Hill City Oval next Sunday afternoon. The Hawks and Bombers have already met this year in Round 1, when the Hawks recorded an emphatic victory to start the season.
