Brisbane has beaten Hawthorn twice in the same season for the first time since 2006 thanks to an upset 33-point win in Launceston on Saturday.
A six-goal third term set the scene for the resurgent Lions, who continued their recent good form with a stunning 15.8 (98) to 9.11 (65) victory.
No.1 draft pick Cam Rayner and forward Eric Hipwood each kicked three goals as the Lions notched their fourth win of the season.
The Hawks had the chance to jump up to fifth place on the ladder but are now stuck in a logjam of teams fighting for a spot in the eight.
Former skipper Dayne Beams gathered 33 touches for the Lions, while Tom Mitchell was his usual prolific best with 43 possessions for Hawthorn.
The Lions were without veteran Luke Hodge, who was a late withdrawal before the game with a calf complaint.
