Vale Barry Gavin – 1944 -2017
All at Hawthorn Football Club send their heartfelt condolences to wife Di, children Eliza, Sam and Amy and extended family of Barry Gavin who passed away on Monday evening aged 72.
Gavin arrived at the club in 1973 and served as Hawthorn’s team physiotherapist until 2003. He was inducted as a Life Member of the club in 1990.
Barry served the club magnificently for 30 years and played a vital role during a very successful period at Hawthorn, which saw seven premierships in his time at the club.
Barry was often seen attending to players on match-day, none more recognisable than after Dermott Brereton’s infamous knock during the 1989 Grand Final. (Pictured above)
Gavin also played six senior games with North Melbourne from 1965-66.
Hawthorn will wear black armbands in Saturday’s Round 8 clash with Brisbane as a sign of respect to Barry and his family.
