In terms of premiership success, Hawthorn and Brisbane are leading the race since the turn of the century (with Geelong also thrown in the mix).
Brisbane were the team of the early 2000s, stringing together three consecutive premierships from 2001-2003 to form their famous three-peat, while Hawthorn were still hovering beneath the eight.
In 2005, Brisbane slipped out of the eight and Alastair Clarkson came to the helm at Hawthorn, representing a turning point for both clubs. Clarkson went onto win four premierships in eight years with his men.
With the success of each team not coinciding with the other, there certainly have been some beltings over the years.
