Here at Hawthorn, we understand that AFL is a team game. Each player, coach and official is but a cog in the wheel of a well-oiled machine, chugging towards success.
But over the next 11 days, we’re forgetting about the team achievements and throwing the spotlight on individuals.
Here’s the question; which Hawk has the most impressive trophy case of all time?
Each accolade has been given a weighting (see bottom of page), and the numbers have been crunched to see who comes out on top.
Follow along each day on hawthornfc.com.au, as we slowly reveal Hawthorn’s Ultimate Trophy Cabinet.
Catch up: The Ultimate Trophy Cabinet - No.10
9th
Regarded as an immortal of the club after achieving so much in Hawthorn’s recent history it may be a little surprising to see the triple-premiership captain sit only as high as ninth.
Four premiership medals, two Norm Smiths, a pair of Peter Crimmins Medals, three All Australian honours and over 300 games worth of experience would surely ensure Hodge sat amongst the highest echelon of trophy-winning Hawks.
However it’s the honours received post-retirement such as induction in to the AFL and Hawthorn Halls of Fame that Hodge is yet to collect that keep him as low as ninth.
Captain for six years, Hodge is one of the longest serving leaders of the club, which earns him a valuable 12 points which help to set him apart from those outside the top ten.
Another point of difference for Hodge is that he is one of only six Hawks to have won the AFLPA Player of the Year award, or the Leigh Matthews Trophy.
The 10 points he accrues for winning two Norm Smith Medals is also a haul that only two other players in the history of the game can claim.
Points:
305 games (10 points)
2x Peter Crimmins Medals, 1x 2nd, 3 x 3rd (28 points)
4x premierships (20 points)
AFLPA Player of the Year (5 points)
2x Norm Smith Medals (10 points)
3x All Australian honours (27 points)
6 years as captain (12 points)

** Despite being a team achievement, we felt it was important to still include premierships, but with considerable less weighting than other individual achievements.
