We spoke to Hawthorn’s Elite Performance Manager Andrew Russell, to find out which of our Hawks have stepped up their game across the course of the pre-season.
Name: Harry Morrison
Age: 18
Guernsey: 35
Senior games (2016): 0
Senior games (career): 0
In only his first pre-season on an AFL list, it may come as a shock to some that this man has been included in the series. However, Andrew Russell believes the 18-year-old has shown more than enough improvement during his short time at the club to warrant his inclusion.
Selected with Hawthorn’s first pick (74) in the 2016 NAB AFL Draft, Morrison is medium-sized defender with great running power, and great skills on both sides of his body.
Since arriving at the club in November last year, Morrison has grabbed his AFL opportunity with both hands, and the dedication with which he has approached his training has not gone unnoticed.
“His ability to handle the training load has been really impressive,” said Russell.
“Since he has come into the program, his running ability has improved significantly.
“He hasn’t missed any training, and his training quality on the track has been very, very good.”
Morrison will don the No.35 in the 2017 season, having been presented with his new guernsey late last year.
While it may be a bit too ambitious to expect a Round 1 debut (though not impossible), the above can only be considered a good sign for Hawthorn supporters.
