Since returning to the Hawthorn senior side in Round 2, Ryan Burton has become one of the league’s most exciting young prospects.
The 20-year-old South Australian has played the last six consecutive games for the Hawks, averaging 20.8 disposals, 5.2 marks and 3.8 tackles. He is currently ranked first in the side for rebound 50s (averaging 3.7 a game) and fourth in terms of disposal efficiency (84 per cent).
Burton was recognised with a Rising Star nomination for his 26 disposal (12 contested) performance against Adelaide in Round 2.
Here’s a quick look at where the young defender sits in that race from a statistical point of view:
Of the seven players currently nominated for the 2017 Rising Star award, Burton is ranked first in average disposals, first in disposal efficiency, second in average marks (Caleb Marchbank – 7.6 marks), second in rebound 50s (Marchbank – 3.71), and third in tackles (Sam Petrevski-Seton – 4.14, Andrew McGrath 4.0), showing that if Burton continues his strong start to the season, he will be right in contention to take out the prestigious award.

Versatility is a huge attribute for the 2015 No.19 draft pick, with his ability to have an impact at both ends of the ground.
“I love the fact that I can play forward and back,” Burton said after receiving his nomination in Round 2.
“I want to be able to try and add midfield to my bow as well. I look up to blokes like that, that can play multiple positions.”
The new number five isn't showing any signs of slowing up, having registered another 23 disposal, four tackle, six mark game against the Demons on Sunday.
Former skipper Luke Hodge has heaped praise on the young player, saying he’s got “really good attributes, that will turn him into a really good senior footballer.”
Keep your eye on this one, Hawks’ fans.
