Ahead of his first preliminary final as a professional footballer, first year Hawk Harry Morrison is keeping a cool head and taking the pressure of the occasion in his stride.
The Hawks beat Port Melbourne in their VFL qualifying final, and now find themselves just one win away from the big dance.
“I’m just trying to soak it all in,” said the 18-year-old.
“The year has gone so fast, particularly when I think back to my first game at the club.
“But I do think I’m pretty level headed about it all, I just try and take things one game at a time, as cliché as that sounds."
Box Hill will now face Richmond in Saturday’s preliminary final. Although the Tigers seem to be gaining momentum at the pointy end of the season, winning their last four consecutive matches, Morrison says the Hawks won’t be perturbed.
“Richmond are up and about at the moment, both in the VFL and AFL, but I think we’ve sort of flown under the radar a bit by having the week off,” said the young defender.
“We did beat Port Melbourne last week who are a really good side, so we’re ready for whatever comes our way.
“The week off has really helped us, and the boys are feeling fresh and ready to go.”

Morrison has been a consistent contributor for Box Hill in 2017, averaging 20 disposals, six marks and four tackles a game during his first year at the club.
His efforts were recognised with an AFL call up in Hawthorn’s final home and away game of the season, and the youngster certainly didn’t disappoint - registering 21 disposals and eight score involvements in what was an impressive debut.
Ever humble, Morrison says his teammates are largely to thank for his growth in confidence this year.
“The boys have been super.
“They’ve welcomed me in with open arms and made it really easy for us young guys, so I can’t thank them enough.”
Box Hill’s preliminary final will take place at 2.40pm on Saturday, at Fortburn Oval. For admission details, click here.
