Review
Billy Hartung averaged more disposals in 2017 than he has in any other season of his career.
Averaging 22.1 possessions a game this year, the 22-year old enjoyed a bump in his contested possession numbers whilst continuing to improve his uncontested touches at an impressive rate year upon year.
The value of this impact was illustrated in his inside 50 (three) and clearance (1.5) statistics also increasing.
Hartung, who played his 50th game in Round 7 against Melbourne, continued to hone his craft as the link player between the Hawks’ defence and forward 50 this year.
The fourth-year player’s best game this year came in the Round 22 loss to Carlton.
Hartung was a shining light on a grim night for his club, recording personal season-highs in numerous categories including possessions (32), marks (nine), rebound 50s (four), inside 50s (five), clearances (three), contested possessions (10) and bounces (eight).
Renowned for his running ability, Hartung will be looking to build on a strong 2017 with another big preseason.
