The Rundown
Hawthorn wasn’t able to overcome a fast-finishing Sydney Swans side in Round 9, with the Swans kicking the three of the last four goals to win by 14 points.
The Hawks went goalless in the first term but managed to keep Sydney to just one of their own, before Sydney kicked the first five goals of the second term.
After threatening to get in front early in the last quarter, the Swans lifted again on the back of Lance Franklin’s three-goal effort to get over the line.

The Star
Jack Gunston was easily Hawthorn’s best player on the night, taking 11 marks and kicking four goals from 18 disposals.

With the ball in dispute at half forward, Liam Shiels channelled his soccer skills to kick the ball into the waiting hands of Gunston, who kicked truly to put the Hawks within four points of the Swans.
