5 to keep in mind: Dallas Willsmore
The Hawks have plenty of talented young players who will be looking to become regular fixtures in the Hawthorn side this year.
So, who might we expect to shine?
We’ve put the spotlight on five players with under six years in the AFL system who will be hoping for a breakout year with the Hawks in 2017.
Name: Dallas Willsmore
Age: 21
Guernsey: 20
Senior games (2016): 0
Senior games (career): 0
Drafted: Pick no. 17, 2014 Rookie Draft.
We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, Dallas Willsmore is a player to keep your eye on.
In 2016…
Willsmore was listed in Box Hill’s best on at least seven occasions.
He was particularly impressive early in the 2016 season, averaging 27 disposals in the first four rounds.
“I’m running smarter this year and getting into better positions, I think that’s the main thing that’s helped me get more of the footy,” Willsmore said in May.
Still yet to make his AFL debut, Willsmore was named as an emergency on several occasions, showing he is right in the selection mix.
Where could he slot in?
A skilful young footballer, with the versatility to match, Willsmore could slip into a number of different positions.
“I’ve played everywhere… half-forward, wing, inside mid on the weekend, which was a good experience. So I’ve got a bit of knowledge of that role now, but I still need to improve on that.”
