We caught up with Hawthorn Assistant Coach Brent Ratten to find out how our draftees are holding up on their first pre-season camp.
Ratten on Mitchell Lewis (pick 76 in AFL National Draft):
“He’s going well. He hasn’t joined in a lot with the skills, but he’s done a fair bit of rehab. We’re just looking after him a little bit, being a young guy in the program, but he’s going really well.
“He’s got really nice hands and he’s using the ball well when he’s actually out there training with us. He’s a big kid with a good frame, and he seems to have some confidence and good leadership in the way he goes about his game.”
On Harry Morrison (pick 74 in AFL National Draft):
“Harry’s going well. He really uses the ball nicely on both sides of his body and that’s a real skill of his.
“He seems really sharp around the handball games and he’s also running quite well.

On Oliver Hanrahan (pick 14 in AFL Rookie Draft):
“Ollie hasn’t done a lot up on camp on the skills side of things, he’s been doing a lot of rehab. Before we came on camp, he showed us he could really use the footy, and his run and carry is a great strength of his.
“He’s got a light frame, and he’s going to put on some size over time, but he seems to be a zippy outsider that can use the ball really well.”
On James Cousins (pick 46 in AFL Rookie Draft):
“He’s going well, James. He has fit in well with the group. He’s a real old fashioned footballer; he knows how to find the footy and he’s hard in the contest.
“He’s done a fair bit of the program, probably more than the other boys. He’s going really well and showing the skills that he has. He’s tough, he’s hard, and he’s really enjoying the combative side of AFL which is great."
